‣ he is neurodiverse, on the autism spectrum, and diagnosed ADHD in addition to several learning disabilities ( such as dyscalculia and dyslexia ); these are often the source of his forgetfulness, tendencies to hyperfocus and any intense mood swings.

‣ his features oddly resemble that of an actual owl, according to others' observation, however the unique colouration is due to waardenburg syndrome, poliosis, and vitiligo respectively.

‣ with this in mind, he is also partially deaf in his left ear. he does not realize he can be quite loud. to soft spoken people, it may appear he is rude or ignoring them, when in reality he often can not hear them.


‣ his surname literally means “horned owl,” while his given name contains characters for light / bright ( 光 ), big ( 太 ), and son ( 郎 )*. this loosely translates his name to “big, thick owl.”

‣ he is the youngest of 4, and the only son.

PERSONALITY｡
often perceived at first encounter brash, childish, and equally headstrong, it is difficult to pinpoint just what births the intimidation which can prove a powerful asset when facing opposites simply by existing; even to those surrounding his presence day in and out he remains enigmatic. as implied by the namesake, he is often humbled by his very own power, and the accompaniment knowledge he must use it wisely; thus, while kind, his genuity in all areas is not adverse to harsher application, not one to mind how deep one's talons sink.
bokuto is at the heart fully authentic,
and far too bright and warm inside he must exude it to all he comes across; though he cannot see his own light, rather all that can be discovered from it, he fully believes the entire universe is in his hands. if one can fly, one can do anything; and while it may prove difficult, nothing in this world is impossible.

NOTES｡
‣ his current concern is: ah, hmm . . . taxes.

‣ he is slowly learning english, and so far, can only speak it as opposed to reading or writing ( he has some difficulty with making sense of the letters ). frustrating as it is, he is determined, so as to make his professional relationships easier and broaden his spectrum.

‣ MSBY is an acronym derived from musubi ( 結び : joining, connecting ), the power of creation in shinto. however, it always makes bokuto think of omusubi and when playing official matches, he always gets hungry. ironically, this is a good thing, as the team black jackal picked their motif to reflect hunger for growth; being omnivorous, such an animal will eat anything. this inspires bokuto to perform his best.

‣ with this in mind, his favourite foods are yakiniku ( barbecued meat. his favourites are beef and pork ) and onigirazu ( a type of rice ball-sandwich hybrid, often referred to, also, as musubi ). combined, they may be his new favourite thing.

‣ his jersey number ( 12 ) is the number of perfection, otherwise considered superior or holy, symbolizing authority, balance, harmony, and completion.

‣ due to his poliosis, his eyebrows and eyelashes have become completely white.

focusing on new techniques from what previously appeared to be dumb luck, his chest receive being
a distinguishing feature, and others such as his backhand spike, legendary cross, and jump serve; the latter notably unique in that he can inspire an entire audience to clap in tandem as repetition helps him focus, the most important aspect to his performance which has considerably improved, aiding in his overall playing abilities.
it has been noted that most of his moves are dragon ball references.

BACKGROUND｡
he has been told there are only two modes: zero or one hundred and twenty. though a generalization, as he has learned to better cope with and harness his moods, it is in fact this very quality which shapes who he is and he owns it proudly now, as with everything else.
while he can be very energetic, to the point of it being bothersome, other reasons for this may be his all over outspoken and extravagant demeanour. he doesn’t intentionally do things to annoy others; rather, it simply does not occur to him that what he may say or do can cause another an issue. however, once aware, he tends to take accountability. this is typically demonstrated in instances where he says too much ━ of course he doesn’t see it as such, and usually will be corrected by someone else. this is simply as he speaks exactly what is on his mind, as it comes: as with his spikes, his words can be a powerful attack depending how another wishes to receive it.

he still cares very much for his appearance to others while still having a certain idea of himself which he presents to the world ( which is not translated very well in any case ), but for this he no longer minds, as he is confident in the individual, and despite his celebrated name it is truly all he wishes to bring a little more light to the joy which is the sport he plays, and however he is viewed, there is still the undeniable fact of his overall great ability for both, and even if he is easily messed with, when it comes down to it as a professional, he should not be: while perhaps known by his adversaries ( or even allies both ) for being a loudmouth wearing a heart bigger than he upon his sleeves, as in the moment before a night owl strikes it is often the silence which is deadly, and a jackal hunts at any time it so pleases.

it is, for him, most honourable even to be a part of this in any event, over half a century later : let alone being host, surely they should bring the most, as he does now, in literal practice. unable to recall the words themselves, but a wise mind once spoke along parallel lines that games themselves proved the same form of.
wishing to stir spirits of an entire crowd full of different backgrounds, beliefs and hopes, all gathered for the love of sport, a team, or perhaps, yes, a single player themselves, reflecting the awe inspired simply by the presence, no matter how far, of stars all given a chance to shine; lights burning within each mirroring the sensation which blooms from his chest out to the very tips of his fingers lending him all the power of thousands within a single act as his hand encased and ensured victory before striking their amassed effort which shone once polished; knowing that to go so high leads only to fall unless he had sprouted wings to fly above everything ━ so far he could see into the future.

leaping in his own personal and professional progress further than anticipated, commended in subsequently doing so, the presence of cameras and thousands does not worry him; but that of something which could get much louder, progressive, or instantaneous, to this day was still unknown, but had always been capable of overbearing even the loudest cheers not only for him alone ━ diminishing the individual in its great potential.

‣ despite his height, his hands and feet are comparably small. fortunately, he has grown from his insecurity of it.

‣ apparently, he has at least 37 noted weaknesses which are triggers for his down, "dejected mode."

‣ his skill in volleyball, in addition to his newfound love of the sport, can make him nearly unstoppable on court when in "the zone."

very flexible, not only physically but also in capabilities, however he can become easily stuck. his best offense is his straight spike, a powerful cross spike, affinity for feints, wipes and jump serves.

currently ranked as one of the top five aces in the country, however at full capacity may as well be one of the top three; though, due to his many weaknesses ( not faults ) he is held back from his true potential.
perhaps overdoing it slightly, adoring the #4 jersey to physically proclaim he is the ace as well as verbally, constantly.

BACKGROUND｡
it may be said that fukurodani academy’s team is carried only on the wings of its ace, the captain leading men’s volleyball to nationals ━ in each consecutive year since his arrival, one would think him intimidating, which may or may not be a bad thing considering his position, yet there are multiple considerations to account alongside this assumption;
the owls will take down nearly anything, as such apex predators of the sky would suggest; such diverse prey, either on land or capable of flight themselves, can almost always be swallowed whole. though not to say their attackers don’t learn their lesson once or twice after tearing off more than they could carry and falling in defeat ( and hardly ever an easy one ), which surely would throw their no. 1 ( or no. 4, in this case ) down with it.
all of the gentle ego stroking or more so boasting of ability are true, every victory which results from the simple greatness of the horned owl ━ he must be, truly, the best: as a goal, or fact, either way his adversaries and allies know this.
but anything that is too full of itself will eventually explode.
it comes as easily as it goes, and full-force, and genuine; he is incapable of faking passion for any one thing. so that also may be his greatest strength as downfall, dangerous on both sides, the true thing to fear. and, possibly, the greatest force.

perhaps the team’s face is translated too literal, the black and white colours replicated in the shift of his mood and thoughts ━ but golden, he’s assured, once his team helps him back to his feet. although he doesn’t bear the usual 1 as captains do, it isn’t because he lacks the means to be one, nor why he can’t seem to carry through. of course pushing those around him to be their best, and often too much excitement to stay young at heart are all good qualities, it does come as a surprise to outsiders when the leader himself needs guidance once all his verve has been extinguished by a simple doubt.
as always, if fire is not first doused, with nothing to keep it burning it will eventually die out.
now his goal is to win the nationals, as it has been before, but with an alteration of the very last game played with this winning (or losing) team. for glory, yes, to prove himself, maybe. broken pieces can still be mended to their original form, but if crushed into dust nothing can be salvaged; what the defeat would do is unknown but still unlikely for him to be blown away completely. at the very least, he knew since the beginning of the year it would leave definite instances to look back on in the future. and thus, he can only go forward with determination.
